How does it work?

Laser skin treatment works by directing a beam of light to an irregularity in the skin, such as enlarged blood vessels or irregular chromophore. This removes the abnormality without scarring or damage while stimulating collagen production to tighten the surrounding tissue, resulting in improved skin texture and reduced signs of aging.

How does this treatment differ from chemical peels and dermabrasion?

Unlike other treatments that remove an outer layer of skin and require significant healing time, laser treatment works by gently penetrating the skin to destroy the underlying vessels and pigment that are the cause of the problem. The outer layer of skin is not damaged.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment causes only minimal discomfort and any initial soreness is easily alleviated with a cold air cooling system.

How many treatments are required?

Typically several sessions are required. The average treatment takes about 15 – 20 minutes. Results may be seen after the first few treatments. The treatment will be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of typical anesthetics.

How long does recovery take?

You will be able to return to normal activities immediately, though sunscreen should be applied as a post-treatment precaution. Lesions typically become raised and darker immediately and will flake off the skin in 10 days leaving no scar, though healing may take up to 2 weeks.

Pre-Treatment Procedures:

• For better results, clients are to avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, tanning creams and sunless tanning lotions for one week prior to treatment and throughout the course of their laser treatment.
• A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF30 or greater should be applied to the area to be treated whenever exposed to the sun.
• Skin should be void of make-up, creams and lotions prior to treatment.

Post-Treatment Care:

• During the healing phase, the area must be treated delicately. Do not rub, scratch or pick. If a crust develops, let the skin fall off on its own. Healing usually takes 7-10 days.
• Exfoliation products should be avoided (i.e. retinols, alpha-hydroxy products, and Clarisonic cleansing brushes).
• Do not scrub the area—only pat the area dry. Do not shave the area if crusting or scabbing occurs.
• If swelling occurs, apply with ice that is wrapped in a soft cloth. Discomfort or stinging may be relieved with Tylenol.
• If makeup is allowed it must be applied and removed delicately. Excess rubbing can open treated area increasing the chance of scarring.
• A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun screen of SPF 30 or higher should be applied whenever exposed to the sun.
